West Texas Kodenkan
Danzan-ryu jujitsu, the Hawaiian-founded system developed by Henry Seishiro Okazaki in the early twentieth century, reaches one of its most remote Texas outposts at West Texas Kodenkan in Alpine. An affiliate dojo of the Jujitsu Institute of America, the school trains Monday and Wednesday nights from 7 to 9:30 upstairs in La Sala, inside the Granada Theatre building on Holland Avenue — surely one of the most atmospheric training spaces in the entire state. Two focused weeknight sessions keep the traditional art accessible to Big Bend residents facing long drives between towns. For visiting details and beginner questions, contact the dojo directly at +1 432-294-0162.
