Austin Historical Weapons Guild

Longsword in one hand, historical manual open on the table — students at Austin Historical Weapons Guild study Historical European Martial Arts by reconstructing fighting systems recorded in manuscripts from the fourteenth through eighteenth centuries. Founded in 2016 by Anthony Buonomo, the guild has spent a decade teaching people, in its own words, how to safely hit their friends, guided by a motto of HEMA, hospitality, and honor. Classes cover swordwork and other historical weapon systems with a strong safety culture, and the community is explicitly inclusive of newcomers regardless of background. Sessions run weekday evenings plus a Saturday midday block, and the school carries a 5.0 rating across 16 reviews. First lessons await at historicalweaponsguild.com.
