Academy of Okinawan Karate WAMA

Founded in 1979 by Shihan Joseph W. Walker, the Academy of Okinawan Karate now serves the Joshua area under his son, Sensei Joseph W. Walker II, who assumed leadership in 2023 and carries on the family’s Shuri-Ryu based tradition. Training currently takes place at the Joshua YMCA on Joshua Station Boulevard, with classes Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Saturday mornings — a compact schedule that suits the school’s close-knit membership. Walker II holds advanced rank in Ashigaru-Te Shuri-Ryu karate-do and has been awarded the title of Renshi, credentials that anchor a curriculum blending classical Okinawan karate with modern application.
