Houston Shotokan Karate
Sensei Deddy Mansyur has taught Shotokan karate since 1978 — thirty-two years at the University of Houston and eight more at San Jacinto College — and his competition résumé includes gold at the 2007 SKIF Pan American Championship and bronze at the 2009 WUKO World Championship. Houston Shotokan Karate carries that SKIF lineage in Pasadena, meaning student black belts are certified through Japan’s Shotokan Karate International Federation with records held in Japan. Training emphasizes traditional karate-do: kihon basics, kata, and practical self-defense that Mansyur has taught everywhere from college campuses to oil-company security teams. Classes meet on Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena, southeast of Houston. For a dojo whose instructor has six decades on the mats, call (973) 650-7379.
