Starbird Saber Academy

Lightsaber dueling has grown into a genuine competitive sport, and Starbird Saber Academy in Irving treats it as seriously as any fencing salle. The women-owned academy fields a team in the Lightspeed Saber League under co-captains Kat Laurange and Russ Mitchell — the latter a former medieval historian whose coaching favors technical finesse over raw athleticism. Members range from age 11 up, many cross-train in other fencing disciplines, and beginners without athletic backgrounds are explicitly welcomed. Practice slots run Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus Saturday sessions at the Peters Road studio. It carries a 5.0 rating on Google. Bring your sense of adventure to Irving, or visit starbirdsaber.com to learn the duel.
