Valhalla Grappling Academy
Named for the hall of fallen warriors, Valhalla Grappling Academy brings Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, submission wrestling, and self-defense to Winnie, a Chambers County crossroads better known for rice fields than rear-naked chokes. Owner Brian Jones has taught group classes, private lessons, and seminars since 2010, and the academy registers as an affiliate with the NABJJF while tracking its competitors through Smoothcomp, giving rural students legitimate tournament pathways. Training runs weekday evenings from 5:30 plus a Saturday morning block until noon — a schedule built around working adults and school-aged grapplers from across the county. The philosophy, per the academy’s own site, treats martial arts as a vehicle for confidence, discipline, and character. The mats sit at 137 Cedar Ave; call 832-771-7477 to arrange a first visit.
